I can only guess from here, but I would say the idea only becomes obvious after the fact. We have to remember Evan only forked another codebase and this improvement is an idea you have to have in the first place. It's like wondering why Marie Curie died of radiation poisoning when it was "obvious" that radiation is dangerous
