blogs are posed to servers that are centralized, production is done by software owned by companions like Adobe, Google, Microsoft and Apple. I don't know what you are talking by the "internet itself" The Internet is simply a name for a network. You connect to it via ISP that charges you money.
content creation on the NET is NOT controlled by editorial guidelines to the same extent as traditional media, so with little cost and effort, ordinary people like you and me are capable of producing content that *might* reach & influence millions of people. Think of a a viral YouTube video. Yes, a big corporation owns YouTube, but what about in the future? Decentralisation of content creation has empowered people. Decentralization of the infrastructure is the next step. If you can't see this trend now don't worry. It's still early days
The gatekeepers of news, ideas, values, culture etc still exist, but their power is reducing. There is competition, and it comes from lots & lots of little people all around the world.
