If everyone else is ok with it, then we can create a new thread and ask the mods to lock this one after 'x' period of time? Or, can we ask them to hide Mr.Spreads email and change control of the thread?

I don't know, but the mods here have a reputation of not being very cooperative.
Best thing would be if they lock this thread, yes. But they will probably not even do that.
So we might need your posting powers once the new thread is up, so that the old one disappears into irrelevance and nothingness.
