That's pretty interesting since as far as I know (I haven't ever tried it) I can basically do apt-get install virtualbox to install that (that may not be the right package name but I think they have a .deb in the tree somewhere). I'd be very happy with a nukeable windows just to try this out because god knows I'm not going to pay for that shit.
EDIT: Just got a chance to reread some of the previous pages and I really like what dooglus has been saying. I can't agree more. Windows is rooted by MS, there's no way to secure that as far as I can tell. Choice of client was obviously intentional, sealswithclubs was working on new software and they decided to start with windows. Others who say "well windows users are the majority" are missing (I think) the fact that there were cross-plaform options (shit, you could have even built a java app which would have run everywhere---java obviously has issues too) and if they had started with these, they'd have immediately been able to keep their userbase instead of losing x% of us immediately cos we don't have windows. Anyway, I guess I won't try to echo what he said anymore it's just that I think he's doing a much better job than sed (no offense dude) at getting the points across.
That doesn't work when you make the decision to BUY AN EXISTING windows poker client because everyone liked it with the intention of first customizing it to Seals, then writing versions for other OSes. Agents with guns fucked up that plan.
The choice was to have the site down for a few months for everyone, or just make the small subset of users who were not using the windows client (myself included - 197,000krill on android across 2 years of daily play) wait for a few months. It is a very easy business decision.
They'll keep getting all kinds of malware, keep having their bitcoins stolen, and just think that's how it has to be.
When you try to tell them there's a better way their eyes glaze over and they think you're trying to say you're "better than them".
@dooglus - If linux was the 90% and windows was the 1%, i think that we would see an explosion in malware development for linux. I have found that people are open minded to hearing about a better way, but too many people present the idea as "Your way is stupid - here is a better way" which comes across as "you are stupid and i'm better than you".
If nerds could do a better job explaining to the common person why changing from something that they know to something that seems/is more complex.....bitcoin would have wider usage by now.
