You can make or lose BTC or not-BTC, it does not depend on currency you play with but on your luck and patience. Personally I managed to make money on BTC gambling, the question is rather about quantity. 
This seems to echo or sit well with what EvilPanda was saying. Most folks who do win tend to win small for just the reasons he outlined.
