Is there actually Russian chat on Primedice or are you guys fooling around with me?  I remember Micro being very angry at anyone who used anything other than what decided was English.

There is actually a Russian chat room.
At the bottom of the chat tab, there is a "Change Chat Room:" drop down menu, and you can choose from 3 different rooms "English", "PVP" and "Russian".

Yes, there is a Russian chatroom.

I feel it is necessary because people used to speak Russian or Indian in pvp.

I, for one, never understood why it's a problem for people to speak in whatever language they want in whatever chatroom they want.  I understand that Micro (et al) don't agree.  I'm guessing it's because these guys are moderators and they want to feel important.  sealswithclubs chat was never moderated and there was never an issue.  if people spammed or begged you just ignored them.

still, i'm glad to hear that other languages are no longer outlawed.  I'm going to look for that tab next time i sign in.

Thanks, hui, for the reasonable replies.  I happen to disagree in almost every way.  Smiley  Some replies below

two reasons why we try to keep the "english" chatroom "english" (apart from the name):

- people go crazy and definitely dislike if people repeatedly don't care if they are understood by the majority of people present
- moderators are ment  to moderate, which is impossible if they can't understand what they have to take care of because of language

But if there's an ignore button then anyone can stop listening to anyone they don't like.  Imagine a world without moderators.  You say if moderators can't do their job then that's a problem, but I, for one, question the need moderators in the first place.

there _are_ quite some russian people which try to speak english and are a welcome and precious part of the english speaking part of the community.

unfortunately there are some people who just dont care - some of them even don't seem to care that there is a russian chatroom.

in order to at least try to keep the chat clean and friendly moderators tend to tell them to use english in the english chat-room and russian in the russian chatroom.

it definitely has nothing to do with an urge to feel important.

i for my part would be more than happy if they took the red M away from me since its much more of a burden than a pleasure to be in such a position (and i never asked for it).

imagine a chatroom full of people with everyone speaking in his native language - i don't think it would be a lot of fun to be there...

I imagine this is just the sort of chatroom I'd prefer.  However, obviously it's a matter of opinion.

it could be nice to have a chatroom for every language spoken by pd users, too although it would probably clutter the community and there might be a lack of people willing to moderate for all of those languages.

I think it'd be a step in the right direction.  What if there was a "create room" button where people who the moderator was after to speak "english" were able to step into their own room for their own language as they preferred.  Wait.  An unmoderatred room!  Smiley

This would be a good experiment in my opinion, open an unmoderated room and keep the moderated room.  See which room people hang out in.

but all that is just my personal opinion and doesn't necessarily reflect anyone elses Wink

Same disclaimer applies to me Smiley
