Oh dear. This is going to start yet another "ZOMG PRICE GOUGING!" debate. This guy obviously wanted these domains sooner and more than anyone else, otherwise someone else would be the owner instead of him. He's taking a risk that nobody will want them at any price. It's a voluntary transaction. If you don't want to pay for these domains, don't.
Personally, I find these kinds of activities useful, such as ticket scalpers. Recently, I was able to get into a "sold out" concert at the last minute. That wouldn't have been possible otherwise since the demand at the price printed on the tickets was far greater than the supply. The only way I could have gotten into the concert that late is if scalpers were at work. They wait in line so the rest of us with better things to do, don't have to. So, sincerely, thanks a lot!

Actually, the domains were going fast. I double checked a few domains to find out they'd gone since last I checked. So I decided to go for it. I just hope I can get my money back.
