A lot of people were suckered in by the fraudulent price manipulation in 2013 by mt gox. I'd still be weary of holding btc for any length of time becasue I think more damage has been done to peoples confidence in btc than you may realize. Plus large investors aren't going to risk losing their money if a govt decides they want to outlaw btc use.

BTC2 million has been stolen in various exchange hacks and wallet robberies since the start of 2014. That is, 15% of all the Bitcoins in circulation has been stolen in a period of just 15 months. This can't go on like this.
