Thanks for the information. The thing on signing a message for a used BTC address is that the account has never posted a BTC address. It has never participated on a signature program, giveaway or something similar. There is only a BTC address in the signature but there is no last edit date to validate that it has not been changed recently.

Therefore I suggest something else to prove that I am the owner of the account. The account was used to post about a crypto coin website for some months. The website also states that the account that is for sale is the website owner (under contact information) After the auction has ended I'll add a temporarily short hint on the website (e.g. something like "the account has been sold to ). Hope this helps to increase trust Wink

As per PM:

Hi abyrnes81
refering to your question here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1013008.msg10990566#msg10990566
I would like to verify my ownership of the account but I am not sure what exactly I should do. Can you please give me a short tutorial?

You should sign a message from a well know (public) bitcoin address posted here at bitcointalk.org (and that post should not be edited). If you don't know how to sign a message (you probable don't own the private key, but there you will find a good and fully "how to" sign a bitcoin message: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0

Intro:

Welcome to the world of bitcoin.

I have been a Newbie like you, looking for scrap, asking questions, working faucets. Faucets are a waste of time. Yes, it was a bit easier in the past. I could join a signature campaign with only 19 posts. Spammers have ruined this pretty much for Newbies though and if they continue I am afraid they will ruin it for all of us. This is not the topic though, sorry for the distraction. You dont believe me that I joined a campaign as Newbie? Well I can proof it to you and I can show you how. By signing a message.

The post quoted below was written by me. It was not edited and it contains a bitcoin address. If you click on its link you will see that it has no dotted line below the time and date. See here for an edited post. I changed it today. Here is a picture.
