I think it has to do with patiently waiting for winter to be over every year.

As for disloyalty, don't tell our southern neighbors that. They prefer to think of George Washington as a patriot rather than a traitor who was disloyal to his king, and Benedict Arnold as a traitor rather than a loyal subject of George III. Go figure.
