There's a bunch of different versions, both x86 and x64, and specific to the various CPU architectures. 
You need to find which version is adequate for your CPU & OS, then fire it up with the necessary parameters added (pool info, worker, etc).

If it still doesn't work for you after these steps, at minimum, it will help your case if you post the exact error message that you get, perhaps screenshot of the app crashing, and the exact launch string...
