As long as it has some connections leave it open.
It will in time.
Being we are limited in stakers it will take some time.

If I copy the peers.dat file over to my Linux wallet will that work? The Windows wallet has 0 active connections for hours.

On OSX that will not work to my knowledge but will have to get back to you on the Linux.
