what I dont get was why wasnt this done 2 years ago or whatever if it was that serious?

Apparently they've been cracking down on Bitcoin gambling sites much harder recently compared to the past:

Quote from: Bits of News
While not based or operated in the United States, the company fears possible legal repercussions from the acceptance of US players down the road... The site is taking proactive measures to ensure their opportunity to play a significant role in the global online gambling market in the future...

Many speculators agree that this decision is at least partially in response to US crackdowns on Bitcoin gambling operations. Just two days prior to this announcement, Bryan Micon was charged with one account of operating an unlicensed interactive gaming system by Nevada law enforcement for his participation in Seals with Clubs. This charge comes two months after his Las Vegas house was raided by Nevada Gaming. If convicted, Micon faces up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Primedice is not the first Bitcoin gambling operation to discontinue service to the US. In the past several months, Luckybit and Satoshidice, two popular Bitcoin gambling sites, also closed their doors to US residents, as the ever changing online gambling regulations in America now threaten the security and future of Bitcoin casinos worldwide.

Effective immediately Primedice will no longer accept deposits from visitors located within certain jurisdictions including the US. While Primedice is neither operated nor based in the USA, we've chosen to take proactive measures to mitigate long term risk for our users and service. The legal landscape is quickly shifting and we are choosing to completely block deposits from users located in what we've deemed as higher risk jurisdictions.

More information about Nevada's shutting down of Seals with Clubs can be found here.

And Primedice isn't alone. SatoshiDice and LuckyBit also did the same by blocking players from the US. CoinBase has also been shutting down accounts associated with gambling too. Sad
