while running away with the money seems unlikely

yes they will probably spew out some blackcoin clone crap code that's barley tested and functioning.
god only knows why they are still running ads for their coin?  perhaps to get a better Dump for their cronies with another round of bag holders.

I disagree. Take a look at their strategic plan and white paper. These documents look pretty well done to me, look like they took a lot of effort, and have a lot of insights. Why would such seemingly intelligent and professional people be involved in some type of scam? Why after doing so much work on these initial documents would they release a shitty end product? Especially for such a small reward... just a $1 million USD presale.

From what I can gather from their website, that's $1 million to split between 10 team members, 3 advisors, and 35 angel investors, 48 people, some of them well known and respected? How could it possibly make sense that they would all agree to perpetuate a scam for such a small final sum. It's ridiculous!

Here's an alternative theory. Maybe by doing the presale they were trying to get more people involved and own stake in the coin, and to help fight the "free rider" problem as they state in their Strategic Plan:

Finally, (Neucoin) should use a security mechanism that doesn’t require awarding all coins to miners. Ideally, it should sell some coins to fund utility development (like Ripple), give some coins away to help user acquisition (like Stellar), and - unlike any cryptocurrency thus far - award some coins to companies that help make the coin useful, addressing Bitcoin’s “free rider” incentive problem. In sum, it should distribute the new currency in proportion to value added in growing the coin’s user base and developing its utility.

Maybe the 100% initial year interest rate is also to help fight the "free rider" problem. That is, if you want to benefit from Neucoin, you can't just buy some and sit on it. You have to at least help out by securing their network (ie mining) to get a proper reward.

That's what I love about this coin. They seem to understand that they need to keep incentives of the users of Neucoin aligned with the success of Neucoin itself. And every step of the way, so far, they have done that.
