are you missing bitcoin or just a transaction that you have sent before?
if you are missing a (unconfirmed) transaction and you still have the coins it probably couldn't broadcast it to the network so it was removes from your wallet.

You might use electrum though it has certain risks of connecting your bitcoin addresses. Ask me by pm if you want to know what i mean.

what risks? are you talking about importing his old addresse private keys into Electrum?
One could get connected his bitcoin addresses through the use of change addresses normally. Most arent aware that when you post one address of yours, that its likely that you reveal even more addresses you own. That could lead to others know what you do elsewhere. Electrum implements an even further risk. Though i wont state this in public since i dont like this problem being exploited.
