I have tried the app on Android 2.3, 4.4 and 5.0. The latter version is the only case where it's not stuck on the loading screen (i.e. it actually launches). The timer is however broken, making it not functioning. I have really tried, more than I'd like to admit, and I've generated 0.7 MCZ over 17 days.
I agree you shouldn't get rich or see it as payment, but if you want people to use the app you'll need to provide an incentive. Doing a referral campaign now,with a non functional app is clearly not a good idea.

I agree if more than 1% of approved smartphone models are non-functioning then it is not acceptable; however, we do not have such a list, partly due to too many models/makes for Android.

For iphone beta App, it is probably 100% working now but if you count the disapproved iphone 4 or old ones, it could be more than 20% non-functioning. One of my household iphone is iphone 4.
Trying to be totally different and not associated with other cryptos, this MCZ certainly would face "more than excessive" criticisms. This is the only Crypto that the algo(s) is still in the setting stage (if you are going to change it again) in addition to the fact that this is the only one the dev(s) are "assigned" the full responsibility of creating functioning mining softwares. They are plenty of cryptos not having dedicated mining softwares for themselves.
It might be a good idea to set a census/voting panels (above or somewhere) where viewers can input (click on) the models/iphone vs Android/working-not working/specific problems on the particular version of Apps.
