Incidentally, I was able to generate a bitstream from cryptoflyr's source on github but try as I might I can't get it to work. I suspect I'm not doing it right since it's totally out of my sphere of technical expertise.
Then you need to go to the IRC and ask questions.

Since you seem to be the authority here I assumed I'd just have to sit it out and wait.
My bad regarding that since I thought John will be the one releasing the software. Take my apology.
But for a fact, It is mentioned everywhere (also in the OP) that additional info regarding FPGA development can be aquired on IRC. Sadly I don't have a good insight into the FPGA development since I don't own any also I'm not knowledged in the programming part of it.
I'll update the OP with cryptoflyr's github.
