Do the two coins weigh the same? Surely that would be a good start in determining which is which?

Yes. The weights are very different. The pure silver coins are heavier. You can also validate the coins by IDs at cryptonic.net.

All the latest silver coins coins have .999 fine silver mark on a rim.
