If an atheist can be turned to understand that God DOES exist, he might be on a new path that eventually makes him a believer in salvation through Jesus. If that happens, he becomes one of us, and it makes God very happy. Jesus said, Luke 15:7, "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."
Who is rejoicing in Heaven over a repentant sinner? Is it the angels? Perhaps. But mostly it is God. Saving sinners makes God extremely joyful.
