I'd say the most considerable difference is the benefit to the "stronghands", or people willing to hold out for their investment, and not dump/sell early.

The way it rewards them is the high PoS rate after 30 days of coin age.  Hence rewarding the people who are willing to wait for their coins to mature several times.
