-the app crashes any time I try to open "preferences"
Hmmm.... Didn't notice that. What version of OSX? I built on el-capitan...
The next time I get a chance with a Mac I can look at cleaning up, but at least it's making keys and talking to the servers...

oh, that could be it. i'm still on 10.9.5 "mavericks" is usually wait a month or two before upgrading to new OS releases
