real citizens do not fear their country/government no matter dictatorship there or not.
that's called patriotism, taken to an extreme level. governments these days do top-secret shady stuff, and people are silenced to keep those secrets hidden away. in this day and age where governments are controlled by inner circles and higher ups, even in the usa for example, its hard to remain patriotic or loyal to a governing body.
china also has all the facilities for manufacturing war goods, even the idea that china might fear a war with japan is ridiculous. if something like that were to break out, china could squash japan in a matter of days; the only fear would be the rest of the world stepping in.
mainland china only fears own citizens
isnt it the other way around? citizens fearing their country/government?

. Back in 1894 during the first Sino-Japanese war the world thought the very same, but bureaucracy and corruption plagued the Chinese side so much what made the whole campaign a cakewalk for the numerically and technologically inferior but more organized and determined Japanese forces.
thanks.
fight for freedom and fight for motherland are quite different althrough many people confuse about it
