If you are updating before 11/15/2015 @ 12:00am (UTC), here are the steps to update:
1.) Download new wallet.
2.) Close old wallet.(you can also delete the old wallet after you close it so you don't click it by mistake later. make sure to have it closed before you delete it though)
3.) Run new wallet.

If you don't stake then you miss much STK, beter for the total coin-supply.
