I do think it is a first ban as i don't see a previous ban in the mod-log (even i the archive).
Last I checked Mod log only displays log of deletion and stuff until 4th Nov(last nuke). As for bans, they are not displayed anywhere, only Nukes(deletion of all posts+ban) and deletion of replies are shown in ModLog.
And people make mistakes, he may have missed the bought account part
