Try giving your client a restart see if it starts syncing again else you might wanna update your wallet, try installing 1.10.0-rc-1 which is a release candidate for 1.10.0. It will sync much faster than the 1.8 branch does, hours instead of days for a full sync, so that really matters if you're a year behind. It also has a ton of new features and security updates.
