I see this matter quite differently, as being a question whether the universe is poor in intelligence and consciousness (say only man and god) or rich in such attributes (basically, smarts everywhere, way beyond us).

The first concept has resembles pre-Copernican astronautical concepts more than anything else, yet all religions were formed on this level of understanding.

The second solves a number of difficult questions quite nicely.  For example, the matter of "original causation."
