using laymens terms:
bitcoin is a currency, you can buy some at exchanges. but if you are looking for free currency, you will literally need to walk the long roads of faucets picking up fractions of pennies.. this wont make you rich or give you a living wage income, but atleast you can play around with the pennies to understand the currency better.

if you want to make proper incomes. you can buy some and then day-trade on exchanges, you can start up a business and accept bitcoin in exchange for goods. you can even buy a few miners and get some returns. the least risky is to start a business or just buying some, but not daytrading..

but if you just want a few pennies to play around with to get used to it. then faucets are your answer.
