Then with the download folder should I just copy everything besides the invisible .ds file and copy it into the applications file on the MAC?

not sure what the .ds file is, probably can be ignored.
i'm also not sure where the location of the datadir is on a mac but it probably isn't the same folder as the qt download.
If you have already started an attempt at syncing and now have a folder with those dat files in then that's probably the one so you should be able to overwrite them
