The process has been both constructive and destructive for bitcoin and there isn't any formal communication between the parties involved, minimal interaction with the general public, leading the developers to guess at what everyone interested wants. Miners are interested in making a profit not in the Democratic process or working in the best interest of bitcoin on the whole. Reaching consensus on the direction of bitcoin could very well be it's biggest challenge.
