You can pick many instances in history, even in the last thirty years or so, and connect the dots if you wish.
They are relevant if you want them to be, you can take any slant you want with revelations, does not make it true.
Where do you think most hollywood sript writers get ideas from, and there has been many disaster movies over the years, all depicting something similar to revelations.
It can be anything you want your imagination to think it is.
