It does sound pretty inconvenient, but that makes sense to us. And yeah, that "bug" will probably be fixed one day, but we're not pressing it, to give some sort of middle-ground.
Well, one could rationalize that in stations/planets there could be (hypothetically speaking) parties that don't mind getting free stuff (== stuff that you are discarding) - in the case of planets that are uninhabited, well there's no one to give you shit for dumping stuff there heheh. With these in mind, one could argue that it's not unreasonable to be able to discard stuff everywhere.
Yes, maybe even a blog. We're trying to leverage external services (like this forum) as much as possible to right now, so maybe a Facebook page or Twitter accounts will fill that role. But having a formal changelog is never bad.
I was actually thinking that a static page - updated every time you have some non-too-trivial changes - would be a good starting point. And you could do both the forum and the news/changelog - it's not like an either-or thing right?
