That's not how freedom of speech works.
Imho self-mod is more like a well balanced community of like minded people, nothing wrong with that. Without rules/self-mod you are only left with anarchy (the jungle).
What you're looking for is a hugbox or an echo chamber and both of them have plenty of things wrong with them.
