It might actually happen this year itself cause the difference in the max supply is very huge and Ether doesn't needs very big value to exceed bitcoins market Cap.Roughly 90-100 dollars per Ethereum would be around 7 billion Market ,which is much bigger than bitcoin's(6.3).
That if the BTC value does not fire up considering the halving, In which case ETH will have to settle for second place.
