I'll do some testing against the pools you are mentioning. Meanwhile, I suggest you just stick to 0.9.23 if it gives you better results
I noticed the longer startup times as well. Not sure where that's coming from, yet.

Sorry, I just noticed that it was 0.9.40. Checked the running version on a different PC and thought they were the same. The .40 release is the one with the 280x that is giving me the trouble.
