1st off, you can't study bitcoin without trading them, it is integral to understanding how the currency functions.  Just imagine a life were you are not told what you can and can't do and the transaction is 100% completely private to be share between two parties that have created a mutual understanding of TRUST, a cryptocurrency basically says:  I will do what I say I will when I say & how I say and shares that mutual understanding with only 1 other party and only give them information on a need to know basis.  As with any web of trust that accumulates overtime there will be a web of mistrust that will be accumulated as well were everyone will have a rating from all interactions that they have based on the content of character.
