I do not think it is the currency that does it. It is the distance and the view that the other guy can take the loss. For instance people would likely return the money to a small shop, but if the cashier at some major chain gave them extra change they might be less inclined to mention it. They might still avoid making it public knowledge, but they are less likely to correct the mistake. The feeling is that the corporations can take the loss without even feeling it where little old you gets significantly more satisfaction out of the same money. I think part of it is also that they are faceless. People feel less bad about the suffering of strangers than they do people they know. It sucks to know that people are being evicted from their homes. It really sucks to see your friend kicked out of his home. I am not saying that it is right. I am just saying that that may contribute to the issue. The nature of digital currency may contribute to making the other person more of a stranger, it is not the currency itself that creates the problem.
