He wanted to invest the bitcoins he owned in startups or loan them out.
These are two different things.
I myself wouldn't invest my coins.Bitcoin itself is still high speculative.And the rest of this new ecosystem is even more risky!
Let the VCs do that I say.They have enough of money to fund the startups.You as a small investor in Bitcoin or other altcoins would just risk to lose what you own.
