Does your wallet say it can't send it?

You should just overwrite the .exe file. No need to transfer them between versions.
Could you please specify more details?
You need wallet.dat from old client and if your new wallet contains no money just copy wallet.dat and get new client sync.
By the way save your current wallet.dat somewhere.
Just use the new wallet with the old wallet.dat. Easy as that
