I guess this is somehow related with Mavrodi, founder of MMM that live in Russia. He's influential enough and eventhough he did scam Russians before there are still people who trust him and his program.

you are right, since MMM using bitcoin, this may very big influence. I also wonder some of my facebook friends are still investing in MMM, it's obvious they make use of a ponzi scheme.
People use to invest here to take advantage of people below them. It is because of laziness and being greedy that's why they are taking the risk eventhough it will be their loss.
