But if you are placing a wager on the odds that your pick will win you something then I would consider that as gambling. So is placing it on sports is not different. 
Maybe you are right... you also wager but it is the completely different way to bet,you bet player's skills,not some mysterious number or something so i still wouldnt compare it to gambling.
