it was addicting depends on the people who gambled, because if a people is so greedy they can play and play everytime he or she win, they cannot stop it until they cannot lose it again, they cannot contented to their winning prize they want to play to make it more and more and more and more, however if they cannot win for the first time he/she play i think player were stop addicting in to the gamble. 
I think it is not only about being greedy but about wanting to higher up one's self-esteem, feel like a cool person Lol getting self-esteem is not gonna happen through gambling, gambling will ruin your self esteem since you will lose. If your self esteem is low you should not gamble very much.
