Exchange paradise to collect fees from converting the coins. Having one coin like Bitcoin everyone accepts is better for everyone (except for the exchanges obviously).

It is not chaos if there are a lot of coins, but it would be chaos if there is not a coin everyone accepts - then you would need to use exchanges very often.
