Why do you say there's no need to increase block size? I don't recall seeing any such discussion in #bitcoin-dev ... the plan has been to see what miners do when this limit is reached, which has now happened.

if nothing is done then transaction fees will steadily increase until small payments with Bitcoin no longer make sense and it's no longer cheaper than PayPal. Which will throttle growth and just generally make Bitcoin less attractive to everyone, ultimately reducing usage and revenues for everyone.
I might have been mistaken, was going to search through #bitcoin-dev logs and see if I could find it again (but it wont be tonight), thanks for the link. I will check it out
I know it really doesn't matter but I have had less than 5 hours a night sleep for the last 3 nightd and spent 1/2 today at hospital with my son, blocksize is not on the top of my "to think about list" right now
