hey, quickest surprise new coin i ever saw and made money on was Pokecoin.  it was a couple weeks back and i knew that the pokemon craze might help the coin out.  it has a crazy randomized reward system that i liked.  i got the wallet and put $2 towards rented mining for the coin, producing around 100,000.  i intended to keep the coins several weeks and see what happen, but the next day, two days after release, it was on yobit.  i gave away 25,000 to some people to help the market and slowly drained the coins i had. 

over three days i made $57 off of $2 worth of mining.  that is nothing compared to some of our investments, but the way that it flowed, so perfectly and so matching the moment, it was beautiful.

i always encourage people to mine up new coins and hold them, it is one of the corners of our hedge fund(about 10%), your home PC can hold hundreds of wallets that are not running and each of those can hold coins.  about 1 out of 10 of those coins are worth something a few months down the line, as long as you don't spend money of them and don't waste too much time, it is an easy long term investment that takes up nothing more than a few MB of hard drive space per wallet, just watch out for the "reinstall" of windows and make sure that you don't format the hard drive, those old wallet files are still in there
