If you can get one of these accounts banned, then the administration will also likely ban all of their alt accounts as well. Although I do not know how much effort these farmers put into hiding the fact that each of their accounts are controlled by the same person.
As I am showing, the farmer here did not put in much effort to hide this. Hence Theymos already knows.
I am clicking through a target range of 100,000 members + here. One by one.
Theymos could just scroll down the member list and see all this in 5 minutes.
If an account farmer (or anyone) makes a large number of low value posts then they will likely get banned.
Are you sure that there are in fact "hundreds" of people farming large numbers of accounts?
What rules would you propose implementing that would stop this kind of farming?
This cannot be fought case by case. All farmed posts are of NO value. They only have one purpose - build post count.
Theymos can decide, he can see this and the bigger picture clearly. Or he could at least communicate his take.
(i have always said that 1 or 2 farmers have created all accounts in question here!)
I am sure theymos is well aware of the problem, so are the mods and staff of the forum, but how do they prevent this?
In fact, I think theymos is doing an impressive job in tacking these issues wherever possible.
Could you link me to some impressiveness please. I've had no input here.
The accounts in question are around 10 months old. No sign of any impressive action yet.
Theymos could have done all my detecting work in 5 minutes, with his tools. 10 month old accounts. 5 minutes work.
The community + moderators find and remove spam and off-topic content, and ban members who are found abusing or breaking rules
To disincentivize farming I see two choices:
Restrict account trade to the maximum extent.
Restrict signatures or signature campaigns.
Yes, inconsistently, slowly, one by one.
Mods said copy/paste is zero tolerance. But even my copy/paste reports go ignored.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1586378.0Banning a member here and a member there for low quality posting is futile when 100's of accounts are openly being farmed.
The more low quality there is, the harder it is to justify banning each individual account, The next account is just as bad?
I'm sure there are other choices here.
