I tried the faucets before I got a free FPGA. The FPGA is definitely the better option... and practically no effort. Faucets et al. advised for those who have no other means and desire to learn about BTC, but it isn't a steep learning curve, anyway.

Edit: I'd like to be added to the lotto as well. Definitely still a newbie.
