Did the chain indeed stop? According to http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/explorer.php the last block is 636889 and it was generated 9 days ago.
The wallet on my Linux box is struggling to sync from bootstrap - it is so slow and CPU hungry. I think it will sync in one week.. if not, looks like more powerful VPS is needed
In any case, a new chain seems to be the only viable solution to those sync issues.

Make sure you have set maxorphanblocks=99999999 in your 8bit.conf. Otherwise sync might take many weeks.
