at this point there are 8 confirmations and the transaction has gone through. i have received an email from the merchant stating that the order has been paid, so we are on our way here.

Just know checked your thread and saw your transaction id, and checked with blockchain.info site and it is telling that this transaction is double spend and it is still unconfirmed , then how are you telling that it got 8 confirmations .
they did a double spend so he can spend again the transaction but this time with a sufficient fee so it can get confirmed asap. here is the transaction that get confirmed

So if I am not going wrong then, the original transaction will never get confirmed and the double spent transaction got confirmed due to sufficient fees?
I would like to learn more about it, does double spending in such cases is possible? And what if someone is using online wallet like blockchain? Since I use blockchain from the day one, I am not much aware of bitcoin transaction through the desktop client, please guide me in this regard.
