I am having the same exact issue. I tried creating the conf file as suggested. As for the .dat file, are we talking about backing up the wallet, saving the .dat file. Then reinstalling a new wallet? Or is there a preexistng .dat file i missed. When I downloaded the wallet zip, there was only four files.

make a silk.conf and add these nodes. had same prob.

Open the debug console in the wallet and type "addnode 162.243.163.103 add" and hit enter.

Then wait.
