Without a public investment feature? Good idea.It can be profitable, but you are correct that it is very risky. You have to do your research well and make good judgments into which sites you will invest. And even if the owner is trusted/fair you might lose simply because of variance and winning players. That being said, personally I have made decent profits by investing last few years.
